SUMMARY: Mt. Isolation [4003'] is one of the farthest 48 four-thousand footers so it is ideal for a 2-night backpack over Columbus Day Weekend at peak foliage! The views are spectacular from the Mt. Isolation summit! This trip includes the magnificent views from Mt. Davis, Giant Stairs and Mt. Crawford. We will be tenting at Rocky Branch #2 Saturday and near Mt. Resolution on Sunday. If you are solo, contact other participants to share a tent, stove, meals, etc. to reduce your pack weight and make the trip easier. Communication is very important for backpacking trips so don't hesitate to ask us any questions on clothing and gear! Refer to our packing list to help you. There are many stream crossings, some which may be difficult in high water, so we recommend you bring trekking poles and sandals. This is a very muddy trail so we recommend bringing spare socks to change into at the end of each day [gaiters would be helpful]. After spotting cars where we finish [Davis Path], we will start from the Jericho Road end of Rocky Branch Trail to hike 6.4 miles to our campsite. We'll stop for lunch along the way. [Elevation gain is 1,700 feet] Sunday we'll continue on our journey hooking up with the Isolation Trail and Davis Path for lunch on top of Mt. Isolation [3.5 miles]. We'll then continue on the Davis Path for approximately 5.3 miles to look for campsites near the former Mt. Resolution shelter enjoying the stunning vistas from Mt. Davis [best view on this ridge] and the 180-degree view from the Giant Stairs clifftop! Monday we'll finish our journey by continuing on the Davis Path with lunch on spectacular Mt. Crawford [2 miles away] and then descend back to our cars for another 2 miles. Cold weather warning: It's not unusual to encounter a little of bit of snow up in the mountains this time of year so make sure you bring gloves, wool hat, and have warm layers [including pants, synthetic underwear for the overnight; fleece, sleeping bag rated at 20 degrees]. Event Coordinators: Mike Boisvert and Jon Normand
