Trip Report/Photos
The day started out with a bit of rain, but had stopped by the time we reached the trailhead on an overcast morning.  Five brave hikers (Jim, George, Rick, Steve & Dave)
decided it was a fine day to hike to Jennings Peak.  We made our way up the Drake's Pond Trail which was a gradual trail with small water crossing.
This trail continued up at a slope which could make one wonder why this is considered a more difficult hike than the previous in the GetFit series: Mt. Potash.
By the numbers, it is a little longer and the elevation gain is greater.  We started to see this toward the top as the trail became steep, but only for a short section.
The last part of the trail before the summit was the steepest part on the way up, but I reassured everyone that it isn't very far and the summit offers some decent views.
At the ledgy summit, we had lunch and took in some of the views.  There wasn't much to take in as the clouds were quite low.
The air was quite calm which seemed strange, but it wasn't raining and that kept everyone satisfied.
On the way down, we took the Sandwich Mountain Trail with Rick assuring us that it was a gradual descent.  I had not been on this trail before so I did not know what it was like.
The descent down the trail was much steeper than we expected and we joked about Rick's definition of "gradual".  It started to rain so we stopped and put on our rain gear.
The pace was slow so as to be safe descending on wet rocks and tree roots.Everyone made it down safely and the rain had stopped.
Jim headed back to Boston while the rest of us showered back at Mike's house where we met up with Chuck at the Sunset Grill for dinner and drinks.
The next and final hike in the GetFit series is the big 4K' ftr: Mt. Tom.  Dennis wasn't able to make the Jennings Peak hike, but will join us for Mt. Tom which will
be his 1st 4K peak.  As a new hiker,  the GetFit series hopefully inspires people like Dennis to continue hiking with GO.
