This hike combines the Ann Stokes Loop, named after a local lesbian, with the Daniels Mountain Loop, which takes us to Moon Ledge, named after the bare butts of 2 gay guys (story to be told on
...The trailhead is in Chesterfield, in southwest NH, just across the Connecticut River from Brattleeboro, VT. If you're coming on I-91 from the north or south, get off at Exit 3, go half-way around the roundabout, and take Rt. 9 east over the bridge into NH. Only about 100 ft. after you cross the bridge, take the 1st right onto Mountain Rd. If you're coming west on Rt. 9 from Keene, NH, Mountain Rd. will be on your left just before you get to the bridge over the Connecticut. Go about 100 ft. on Mountain Rd. and take a left on Gulf Rd. - a narrow, winding dirt road. In about 2 miles, the parking area for Madame Sherri Forest will be on your right, across from a dirt road to the left. There's a red gate and a sign. NOTE: DO NOT USE GOOGLE MAPS to find Gulf Rd. - they have it mislabeled and misplaced in several sectiions. Mapquest seems to be accurate.
Please plan to arrive at the trailhead before 10:30, so that we can leave on time. DON'T FORGET: THIS IS THE DAY THAT DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS - so set your clocks back 1 hour or youi'll be waiting a long time for the rest of us to arrive!
Trip Report/Photos
It was great to see some familiar faces and even better to meet new ones. The weather was a bit chilly but it was a sunny day in early November in NH so no one complained. In fact, several folks removed a layer.
Howie and Moon were great trip leaders, spending time with each participant and telling funny stories. I will hike with these guys again.
