Wilderness Network of Georgia
Outings include day trips to scenic areas within a two- or three-hour drive of Atlanta, weekend trips around the Southeast, and longer excursions to locations such as Alaska and national parks in the western U.S. Members also sponsor social gatherings, and members frequently host informal seminars to increase interest in and pass along knowledge about a favorite outdoor activity.
Community service is also an important element of WNG's mission, with maintenance hikes scheduled on a regular basis in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service, the Nature Conservancy, and other agencies and organizations.
The principle underlying all Wilderness Network of Georgia activities is volunteerism. The success of the group depends on the willingness of members to lead trips and organize activities.
The pleasure and satisfaction members get from WNG derives from the creativity and energy of our membership.
Annual membership dues are $20 per person. This covers administrative costs such as postage and the preparation of the newsletter and calendar, but not the cost of any outings. WNG sponsored trips are not-for-profit, and participants will generally be expected to chip in for gas, parking fees, meals, and other necessary expenses.
