Tuscany to Rome Pilgrimage
04/12/2026 Region: International Activity Type: Vacation Trip Place: Rome,
I'm planning for an April village to village walk on the Via Francigena through the hills of Tuscany, starting in Florence and ending in Siena. Start date April 15; about 10-12 days total; daily hiking around 16km/10mi per day over moderately hilly terrain. Would love to have company! For those that have more time, this path continues on to St. Peter's in Rome, which can be reached on foot within a few days, or on public transit on a few hours. Fly into Florence or Pisa for the meetup.
Hi. Never been but will give it serious consideration.
does the Via Francigena go through Florence? if you consider adding Pistoia as side trip, I’m in!
Thanks for the interest! Because of time limitations the trip will start on April 15 or 16 for 9 walking days and end in Siena on the morning of April 24. Those who want to continue to Rome can do so on their own, of course, but I will not. @Relayer: The Via Francigena runs close to but not through Florence or Pistoia. If you fly into Florence airport (FLR) a day or two before we meet up, you can take a bus direct from the airport bus station to Pistoia in about 35 minutes. From there another
...short bus ride will take you to Lucca, our meeting point.
