Summary
HIKE RESCHEDULED TO SUNDAY 12/12!!
Due to the likelihood of rain on Saturday, we're moving the hike to Sunday 12/12, same meeting time and place. Given the temperatures forecast between now and Sunday, it appears we're more likely to encounter mud than ice or snow. However, it would still be wise to pack microspikes "just in case." IF YOU'RE REGISTERED FOR THE HIKE BUT UNABLE TO ATTEND ON SUNDAY, PLEASE REMOVE YOUR NAME FROM THE TRIP! The hike is full, so please allow others to attend if you cannot.

Join Charlie and Neil for a hike in the Purgatory Brook Watershed in Lyndeborough and Mont Vernon, NH (http://www.nhmountainhiking.com/purgatory.html). We'll hike about 7 miles along Purgatory Brook, taking in three waterfalls and stopping at one for lunch. Bring snacks and/or lunch and plenty of water. Wear layered clothing. It will likely be chilly when we start, but may warm up during the day. Sturdy footwear is also important as parts of the trail are steep and rocky. Also note that the trail could be icy in spots, or even snow covered by early December. Consider packing microspikes and/or hiking poles. In the unlikely event of significant accumulated snow, we may do this as a snowshoe hike. We’ll notify you if so.
IMPORTANT: When you register for the hike, please email Charlie (charlieg) and Neil (benj58) your GO username, actual name, and cell phone #.
Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot
We’ll meet at the Purgatory Falls-Lower Falls parking lot, Purgatory Rd., Milford, NH (https://goo.gl/maps/kHvlT). From the Boston area take Rt. 3 into NH, where it becomes the Everett Turnpike. Take exit 8 from the turnpike onto Somerset Pky. In .8 mi, turn right onto Rt. 101A west/Amherst St. Follow 101A for about 6.5 miles to the junction with Rt. 101. Turn left toward Peterborough/Keene and follow 101 west for 5.1 miles. Here you’ll cross Rt. 101A again. **Continue straight onto North River Rd., and follow that .8 miles until it becomes Purgatory Rd. (You’ll see Fitch’s Corner Farmstand on your left.) Continue about another half mile to the parking lot on your left.
From points west in New Hampshire, follow Rt. 101 east to the junction with North River Rd. and 101A in Milford. Turn left onto North River Rd. and follow the directions from ** above.
