After the stormy hurricane force winds (gusts up to 120 mph) in the summits and rain on Friday, the weather changed quickly for our hike on Saturday with crystal clear skies, temps around 30F at the summit, and winds only about 20MPH.  Visibility at the summit was 100+ miles!  A perfect day for hiking in the White Mountains!

After meeting at the Cannon Mountain Tramway Hiker Parking lot at 8AM, we hiked about 3 hours up the Greenleaf Trail to Greenleaf Hut for snacks and relaxing in the sun before continuing to the Mt. Layfayette summit arriving at about 1230PM.  We enjoyed lunch & the awesome views of the Pemi wilderness and the Franconia Ridge before decending back down at about 1PM.  The trail had some icy spots on the rocks but no snow so we did not need the microspikes.

After the hike, the group enjoyed an apres-hike Austrian hut-style dinner at "Bear Pond" with Cheese Fondue, Appetizer, Chicken soup with Knodel, salad and linguini with meat sauce and Austrian wines and German beers.  Jon brought an awesome "Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte" for dessert. After the dinner, we viewed photos from Mike & Jon's Hut to Hut Hiking in Austria's & Germany's Zugspitz Arena.
