Friday, we arrived at the Tolland State Forest Campground in the early afternoon and set up on site 8, which had a nice view of the lake through the trees (see photo).  We walked around the campground & the day use area, had dinner, and enjoyed a quiet evening around the campfire.

On Saturday, we hiked a loop from the campground starting on the Gilmore trail to  short bit on the dirt Alan Road.  We stopped to eat lunch by the Farmington River and continued the hike on the Sawmill Trail.  We ended the hike with a short walk on East Otis Road back to the campground.  The hike took us through a variety of forested areas with the State Forest.  We capped the day off with another campfire.

Sunday, we broke camp at a leisurely pace and headed home.

The Tolland State Forest Campground had 92 wooded sites that spaced well apart.  Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the campground opened in 1933.  I highly recommend it.
