When I arrived at Mountainside on Friday at about 4 PM I found Dalan, Kevin, Carl and Kerry chatting by the canteen.  They had already checked in with David and set-up their gear at Indian Pipe, our site for the weekend.   The rest of us continued to arrive through the early evening.   Around 6 PM we started to break out our snacks and beverages.  My $6.99 bottle of Costco Sangria with lime slices seemed to be a hit!  Evening was a mix of socializing, dinner and entertaining visitors from other sites.   Dalan, although never a Boy Scout, skillfully built and tended the campfire with the help of Singledad (Brian), who was a maniac for rearranging the burning logs.  The afternoon had been hot and humid, but by evening the temperature had cooled quite a bit.

Saturday early morning was a bit cloudy, but by late morning it became beautiful NH summer day.  After a relaxing breakfast in camp some of us drove to Vermont’s Rock River preserve for swimming and sunbathing on the rocks.   The weather and water temperature was perfect and the flora and fauna picturesque.  Dalan stayed back at Mountainside to paint.

Saturday evening was group happy hour, dinner, our campfire and hanging out at the canteen’s bonfire and other sites.   Due to the impending, predicted bad weather for Sunday morning some of us packed up and consolidated gear, so that it would be easier in the rain on Sunday.

This was a fun weekend with an amenable group of GO members.  Most of us had never met before but kindled some new friendships. Thanks to all of us that signed up and participated!

p.s. Dalan here. Richard did an amazing job running this trip, thank you! Had a great time and made some new friends. This is a great place with lots to do.
