At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is the highest point in Tennessee, and the third highest mountain east of the Mississippi. A drive up to Clingman's Dome, then a 200 ft walkup to the observation deck. Then, a short 4 mile hike along the Applachian Trail to Mt. Collins included a 800 ft. descent, & 600 foot up to Mt. Collins. For most of the afternoon there was sun where it could get through the trail cover growth. Clouds were in and out on the peaks but mostly out allowing ample excelent views. A return by the road & a short shower on the way back to the starting point. Unfortunately the vastness of the views cannot be caught justifiably with a simeple digital camera. After the rain shots are some overlook shots on the way down the Tennessee side.
