Trip Report/Photos from TrailBlazer
Goose Pond Conservation Area, which forms a key part of the viewscape on the western side of Newfound Lake, most prominently the Ledges that tower above West Shore Road. This gem of land includes 400 acres of unspoiled rugged and diverse habitat, and encompasses about 3,000 feet of the shoreline of Goose Pond.
The remainder of the shoreline belongs to Wellington State Park. The property also contains more than 2 miles of popular hiking and snowmobile trails, including the eastern end of the Elwell Trail, a key link in the route from Newfound Lake to Mt. Cardigan.
The day was sunny and warm with neary a breeze. An outdoor destination to explore brought us to a beautiful pond in the woods and also to the shore of New Found Lake via Wellington State Park. It was quiet, serene and warm. The hike around Goose Pond was 2 miles with many spots to relax and take in the view. This is a great locals spot for dog walking and excercise.
After our jaunt around the pond we drove over to Wellington State Park which was 5 minutes away. The shores of New Found Lake are inviting with waves lapping the shore and white sand to park a chair on and read a book. If it had been August I would've jumped into the lake for a swim in the clean waters. I was impressed with the large "wood" PECKER I chanced upon while exploring in the woods.
New Hampsire is an outdoor lovers paradise and this off the radar destination is worth a drive and some exploration.
