Trip Report/Photos from MO
On Saturday, we decided to do a somewhat impromptu hike up Mount Moosilauke, including the South Peak Loop. This is a classic trek in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, known for its sweeping views, challenging terrain, and alpine experience.
The first section of the hike, up the Gorge Brook Trail, was a bit wet with minimal traces of snow. As you might have guessed, conditions got snowier as we ascended. Within 15 minutes of the summit, winter set in. The snow was much deeper (but well-packed), the winds were whipping, and visibility was minimal. Temperatures were still slightly above freezing, but the wind chill was definitely not. After taking a few moments for a photo, we proceeded to the South Peak.
On the way there, the clouds parted, and the views were spectacular. The wind even let up a bit. However, it was still too blustery and cold to hang around for long, so we continued down the Carriage Road Trail and found a sunny, wind-protected spot for lunch.
After lunch, it was all downhill from there—both in terms of the hike and, well, some of the conversation. Need I say more ?
It was a great time with a great group of guys. Take note - It's winter up in the Whites.
