UPDATE: Rescheduled to JULY 18 So we'll miss the flowers this year but should still be a stunning hike if we get good weather, with lots of time above treeline.

This will be a 10-11 mile, all day hike, starting from Pinkham Notch. There will be lots of elevation gain. We will ascend Tuckerman Ravine and Lion's head trails to get to the Alpine Garden Trail. If we're lucky the Alpine flora will be in full bloom! Here's a description of the Alpine Garden: https://www.nhdfl.dncr.nh.gov/sites/g/files/ehbemt866/files/documents/alpine-garden-profile.pdf As long as the weather is comfortable, we will plan to slow our pace and take our time to take in and enjoy the 1 mile stretch of trail that runs through the Alpine Garden area. After the garden we will ascend over Ball Crag to the Washington summit, then descend along Nelson Crag Trail and Old Jackson Rd. Weather can change quickly and much of the day will be above treeline. Please come prepared. Recommended gear: Hiking boots/shoes with good traction, rain/wind gear, warm layers, headlamp, hat, sunscreen, bugspray. Carry at least 2 liters of water, lunch and snacks. We can refill water at the summit. Please arrive by 8:15am, we will start hiking at 8:30am.

The other thing to keep in mind is the smoke from the Canadian Wildfires. At the moment conditions for higher elevations are listed as "moderate" meaning it may impact our views but isn't unsafe to hike, unless you know your body is unusually sensitive to air pollutants. That's a good thought David. Yes, if we have an issue with parking we can put cars at Wildcat. Ideally we can find at least one spot at the visitor center, have someone stand in it, then everyone else ferry's the other cars to Wildcat and carpools back to the one spot.
Hey Alexander, any concerns about parking on Saturday based on start time? It was pretty crazy at Franconia Ridge last Sat. I guess if it's full up we put cars at WildCat Mountain for the day.
Hey everyone, so far weather is looking good for Saturday! I'll keep an eye on it and give a final thumb's up or down on Friday. Finger's crossed I'll see you all soon!
Sadly weather is not looking safe for Saturday. Clear all this week, rain and thunderstorms saturday and sunday with risk of lightning, hail, and heavy rain and winds...clear again starting monday. If you guys want to find a time in the next week to do this hike while there's still a chance of flowers, go for it. Unfortunately my schedule won't allow a redo on this plan until sometime in July.
Hey Guys, At the moment weather is not looking great for saturday (rain and wind with chance of thunderstorms...) I'll keep an eye on it and make a decision Friday afternoon. Sunday is also looking rainy. I may reschedule this hike for later in the summer, which, sadly, would miss the wildflowers, but is still a route I've never hiked and would like to do.
