Summary

Join us for the last snowy winter hike before Spring! The hike is about 6 miles round trip to Pierce (2400 feet elevation gain) or 9 miles round trip to Eisenhower (3000 foot elevation gain). Hikers not wanting to hike from Pierce to Eisenhower can turn back at Pierce.
We will be hiking together as a group so faster hikers please be mindful to adjust your pace if you find you are getting to far ahead. We will be hiking in winter conditions. MicroSpikes are necessary. Snowshoes might be needed for the Pierce to Lafayette section. Please have the appropriate gear/clothing to hike this time of year and the appropriate amount of layers to keep your core body warm. We recommend WINTER hiking boots, MicroSpikes, poles, wool hat, gloves, hand warmers, rain/wind gear, warm layers, HEADLAMP and NO COTTON. Carry at least 2 liters of water, lunch and snacks. Hikers are welcome to stay overnight at my house (about 15 minutes from the trailhead) before and after the hike. I'm always happy to break trail as needed :D Weather's looking pretty good for tomorrow!

Bobcat Posted Mar 19, 2026 at 4:23 PM

Hi Dan: I have extra pairs of snowshoes you can use. Not sure if we actually will need them.

rlricchi Posted Mar 19, 2026 at 3:35 PM

I’m hoping for no snowshoes, too. I think we’ll be ok to Pierce and maybe all the way to Eisenhower. Popular trails near AMC facility. I’ll look for trip reports tonight.

beyoungyu Posted Mar 19, 2026 at 2:31 PM

I'm okay with the change except, I don't have snow shoes. Can I still do it?

rlricchi Posted Mar 19, 2026 at 1:33 PM

I’m fine with Pierce and continuing to Eisenhower based on wind, conditions. See you all soon.

I would much rather hike anything than not hike at all. I can look at my maps this evening to think about other options.

dpbyrnes Posted Mar 19, 2026 at 10:43 AM

Haven't looked at the summit forecast yet, but I'm totally game for Pierce & possibly Eisenhower. looks like some snow in Bretton woods on friday and maybe an inch on Saturday so no rain. If we're a go I'd like to stay over tomorrow night if you're open to that Bob.

Bobcat Posted Mar 19, 2026 at 10:06 AM

Thinking of switching to Mt Pierce & possibly Eisenhower instead. Ridge looks windy so doesn't look great for a Franconia ridge hike. Weather will be Cloudy & relatively but no rain on Saturday. Just wondering if that is a hike you guys would be interested in or should we just cancel? Alternatively, is there another hike that you can think of that would work? This time of the year we need to be mindful of stream crossings.
