Summary

Up your levels of dopamine, endorphin, oxytocin, serotonin, and calorie burning as this holiday season gets underway. Catch great views and maybe some raptor sightings as we ascend 1,650 ft. to the Cranny Crow overlook thenhike along Big Ridge on this 4.5-5.0 hour hike. I know the guides list this as a 4.0-5.0 hour hike, but I like to stop and look a lot – there’s so much to see!

As always wear warm layers of non-cotton clothing and bring snacks and plenty of water for the trail. Corny natural history jokes encouraged.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

We’ll meet at the Lost River State Park headquarters parking lot at 9:00 am and carpool to the trailhead just a short distance down the road. Drive 4.1 miles up from Mathias, WV along Howards Lick Road. Turn left at the sign that indicates Park headquarters. Only about 2 hours and 30 minutes from Morgantown, WV and about 2 hours 20 minutes from Washington, DC.
