The Superstition Mountains are legendary. With jaw dropping scenery, a bloody history, and a spiritual aura, the Superstitions are one of the most haunting landscapes in the West. So, it’s no surprise that the Supes have been the backdrop for countless Westerns.

This one-night loop samples some of the best that the Superstitions have to offer: close-up views of Weavers Needle and a walk into mysterious, enchanting La Barge Canyon.

This will be a strenuous backpack, covering nearly 18 miles at a purposeful pace over rugged terrain, so this trip is suitable only for experienced hikers in very good condition, though properly equipped beginner backpackers are welcome. Though our adventure will keep us on established trails, we’ll cheerfully face the possibility of prickly vegetation and sleepy rattlesnakes waking up from hibernation.

This trip is strictly dependent upon a favorable weather forecast. A National Weather Service forecast of rain within 72 hours of our start will cancel or re-route this trip at the sole discretion of the leader, as will fewer than three confirmed signups as of 8:00pm, Wednesday, March 6.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

We’ll meet at the sign-in kiosk at the Peralta Trailhead at 9:00am (SHARP!) on Saturday morning.
