Summary

About the Hike:

Standing prominently midway between the Franconia and Twin Ranges is Mount Garfield. It is considered to have one of the the best viewpoints in the White Mountains. You'll get great views of the Pemigewasset Wilderness as well as terrific views of the Great North Woods.

Mount Garfield is a 4,500 feet.  We climb via the Garfield trail.  The hike is a 10 mile round trip hike.  Elevation gain is 3050 feet but is spread over 5 miles (resulting in a more gradual incline than many other 4000 footers)

Hike Type: out and back

Estimated Elevation Gain: 3050

Round Trip Distance: 10 miles

Estimated  Duration (with breaks/lunch/pics): 6.5 hours

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

The trailhead and parking area are on Gale River Loop Road in Bethlehem, NH.

From the south:

Take exit 35 off route 93 north.  This will put you on route 3 north..  The Gale River Loop Road is on the right side of Rt. 3,

Note: Gale River Loop Road , being a loop, has two entrances off route 3.  These directions are for the southern most entrance (which is closer to the Garfield Trail parking area). Once on route 3 you'll cross a bridge over Gale River - the entrance is on the right.  Drive 1.1 miles down the loop road to the parking area.
