Summary

Join us for a hike up Mt. Cannon at Franconia Notch. We will hike up the Kinsman Ridge trail to the Mt. Cannon summit and then down the Lonesome Lake Trail to Lonesome Lake and then exit at Lafayette Campground. (We will spot a car at Lafayette campground). Total mileage is 5 miles (5 hours).  The mountain has great views of Mt. Lafayette and a tower with 360 views.  After the hike (optional), join us at the house at "Bear Pond" (Sugar Hill, NH- 15 minutes from trailhead) for a Halloween Happy Hour Social & Pot Luck Dinner. (BYOB & a dish to share if attending potluck).  At the house at Bear Pond, sit on the deck and check out the mountains at sunset and the watch the bats and listen to the owls & coyotes. Or relax by the warm woodstoves.  Hot showers & overnight lodging available (8 beds available for guests) on Friday or Saturday- please let me know if you want to reserve a bed.   For the hike, expect fall or early winter hiking conditions- (Suggested apparel:warm layers, gloves, warm hat, rain/wind shell, water, lunch, snacks, & possibly micro-spikes.)

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Meet at the Hiker Parking area at Cannon Aerial Tramway (Exit 34B) off Interstate 93.  The Hiker parking area is at a gravel lot to the left of the main parking area.  Alternatively, meet at the house in Sugar Hill, NH (15 minutes from trailhead). Email me for address & directions.

Update: We decided to just hike to Lonesome Lake on Saturday rather that Cannon Mountain. The rain will mostly hold off until the afternoon or evening but will become very windy so not a good day for the summit but fine for Lonesome Lake. We will hike up the Lonesome Lake Trail to the hut & have lunch there & enjoy the views. :>) We will meet at the Lafayette Campground parking lot at 10AM (by the building in the lot). (Between exit 34A & 34B). Call or email me with any questions. Bob

Jon and I will skip the hike but join the Potluck. What time should we get there? Jon will be making some sort of Devilish dessert! Since we are not making the hike, do you want us to remove ourselves from the trip?

One more thing: If you decide not to do the hike on Saturday due to the weather, it's Ok to opt-out of the hike & just attend the Halloween Pot Luck & Social Event.

Halloween PotLuck Update: Here's the latest on the menu for you hungry hikers: Cajun Fajitas (Bob), Ribs (Max), Large Salad (Rich), Cheese Fondue with bread, veggies, & fruit (Russ), Lasagna (JT), Macoroni Salad ( John). That's all I have so far ( I think). Other hikers not listed- please feel free to comment on what you are bringing so we have a :"balanced diet" LOL. I will have Starbucks coffee in the morning also. :>)
