Summary

Come enjoy the Upper Narrows in Winthrop, Maine (just 15 minutes West of Augusta) for an active day on the water. We have 10+ small watercraft available (or bring your own), including -2 Canoe's, 1 Ghanooe, 2 Paddle Boards, 5 Kayaks and a 12 foot sailboat. The water will be warm (already low 80's and warming every sunny day). We have a dock you can jump off, a beach to lounge at, and a ramp to launch your own boat. We'll likely take a 1 to 2 hour tour after lunch, of our lake and possibly the Lower Narrows perimeter, checking out wildlife (Bald Eagle, Loons, Ducks, Turtles) and other lake-front homes. Bring a noodle to float around on afterwards back by the dock, a hat, some sun-screen, and enjoy the warmest part of the year. Our lake is 1 mile long and has an island in the middle where you can dock and jump off Standing Rock into deep water. Bring a pack lunch and your own beverages in a cooler with ice. We do have an old boathouse that provides ample shade and protection from the elements, however we don't have electricity or running water or any type of facilities available to you; however downtown Winthrop is 1 mile away where you'll find a gas station, dunkin donuts, Hannaford, etc. We'll offer a Campfire and BBQ dinner that evening with sides and a salad for $10/person as a way to extend the day -- we have both indoor and outdoor seating available (weather dependant) for comfortable social distancing. We are dog-friendly, and you're welcome to bring your own pooch as long as s/he's socially trained, not a barker, nor aggresive/breed.

Coming from far away? We have spots for 4 tents on our property right there on the lake, to allow you to drive up on Friday eve and spend the night Saturday night. Flat, dirt locations where you can set up a tent for the weekend. Text/Call me with requests of this nature, so we can reserve a spot -- especially if driving from afar. Remember we're OFF THE GRID, no facilities at that part of the property.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

I-95 North from Portland towards Augusta, exit Route 202 West towards Winthrop, Drive 7 Miles on 202 West. LEFT at Winthrop Veterinary Hospital onto Ashaloona Drive, CONTINUE STRAIGHT at first fork (don't go left); then again CONTINUE STRAIGHT at 2nd fork (don't go right) onto dirt Private Road with large G.O. sign I will post eye-level on a tree. Park along/side dirt road before arriving at bottom. We might have to park couple cars at neighbors -- within walking distance.

Guys, looks like Saturday will be 80 degrees and Sunny! Looking forward to some kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, comeraderie, bbq, campfire and maybe a full sky of stars overhead later in the evening! Don & Roger.

If approved to join, I'd plan to camp Saturday night if there's still availability. Thanks

LymeLight Posted Aug 4, 2020 at 9:18 AM

I will probably arrive closer to 11:30, as my neighborhood association in Hope, ME, has its annual meeting at 9 that morning.

EZGoingMountainMan Posted Jul 23, 2020 at 9:41 AM

HikerLegs -- absolutely, 3 spots remaining, 1 reserved for you. See note to VWGreg. Don.

HikerLegs Posted Jul 23, 2020 at 9:05 AM

I plan to tent Friday and Saturday night if there's a spot for me. Thanks.

EZGoingMountainMan Posted Jul 22, 2020 at 2:21 PM

VWGreg -- sounds great ... we'll see you anytime after 3pm on Friday ... we'll probably have enough grub Fri Eve, no matter what time you arrive for chicken on grill and salad. Don.

vwgreg Posted Jul 22, 2020 at 11:45 AM

Guys, my plan is to drive up Friday night and pitch a tent to stay over the 2 nights. Please count me in. Dinner together sounds terrific too. Can't wait!
