Summary
Thinking of getting in shape for a hike in the Whites, here is your opportunity to participate in a series of 3 hikes that will get progressively harder to get you fit for the upcoming summer hiking season!
Pack Monadnock, located in Miller State Park, is one of the sixteen New Hampshire Mountains with an active fire tower!
Pack Monadnock Mountain [2290 feet] is a classic summit in Southern New Hampshire famous for its nature trails, and scenic views.
There is parking fee of $4 per person.
We will leave the parking lot use the rocky and challenging Wapack trail to the summit…has some scrambling…good practice for the Whites! It starts climbing at a moderately steep grade up boulders and loose rock. We soon begin seeing the broad valley to the west and the majestic Mount Monadnock. After 1.4 miles, we will reach the summit.
Climb the fire tower for some incredible panoramas of the glorious Monadnock Region, and a stunning view of renowned Mount Monadnock. On a clear day, you can see the Boston skyline. We’ll have lunch on the picnic tables at the summit.
After reveling on the summit, we will descend using the Marion Davis that has easier footing.
Bring water and lunch; along with what you normally carry for a day hike.
Round trip distance: 2.8 miles
Elevation gain: 900 feet
Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot
Miller State Park is located on New Hampshire Route 101 just inside the eastern edge of Peterborough. It is just about across the road from Temple Mountain (the defunct ski area that is still open for hiking and such).
From Peterborough or anywhere west of there, take Route 101 east. After central Peterborough, there are two hills that have "climbing lanes" or "truck lanes." The second of these is where the park is. The entrance is on the left just before the top of the hill, where the climbing lane is about to end.
From anywhere east of Peterborough, take Route 101 west. After you pass Wilton, NH, you will come to two hills that have "climbing lanes" or "truck lanes." The second of these is where the park is. The entrance is on the right, just past the top of the hill. It's a bit hard to see, and it comes up quickly after you crest the hill. Be ready to turn right when you pass Temple Mountain on the left.
Contact us if you'd like carpool with us from Manchester.

- Comment: I live in a neighboring town, and if there is someone who needs a ride in the P'boro area, I may be able to help. This will be my 2nd recent hike, but over the years I have climbed Monadnock 4 or 5 times. I work out is a gym, and my 70 years are eager to do this!
