Summary

Three 4,000 footers in one hike! Hike the Tom, Field, Willey loop and enjoy the amazing views of early November in Crawford Notch!

We will start from the Highland Center and take the A-Z trail to the junction with the Willey Range Trail. The Mt. Tom spur is a .6 mile out & back from the junction, and then we will continue on the Willey Range trail to Mts. Field and Willey. After Willey we retrace back to Field and take the Avalon trail down to Mt. Avalon. We will also take the short side trip up Mt. Avalon. After Avalon, we follow to A-Z trail back to the Highland Center. For those keeping track, this will give you three 4000 footers plus a “52 With A View!”

Good views from the summit of Mt. Tom. At Mt. Field, there an outlook and a good chance of encountering gray jays here. At Mts. Willey and Avalon, there are excellent views of the Presidentials, Crawford Notch and mountains to the South.

We will hike 10 miles, with an elevation gain of 3,600 feet and it should take about 7 hours to complete. This hike is rated strenuous, remember that this is relative and time will vary depending on your own abilities.

We may encounter winter like conditions this time of year so be prepared! Please have the appropriate gear/clothing to hike this time of year and the appropriate amount of layers to keep your core body warm. We recommend hiking boots, wool hat, gloves, hand warmers, NO COTTON. Carry at least 2 liters of water, lunch and snacks.

After The Hike: Everyone is welcome to join us back our house for dinner. You may want to bring a change of clothing to be more comfortable and can use our showers. We ask $10 to pay for our food costs and it’s BYOB.

Lodging Option: We have 8 bunks available at our house near Waterville Valley, NH for Friday night at $25 per night and for Saturday night at $35 [includes dinner]. Coffee/bagels each morning and linen/blankets/towels are provided. We have limited space in the fridge to store your beverages/food so it's best to bring a small cooler. Space is limited so email us ASAP to reserve a bunk!

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

We will meet at the AMC Highland Center in Crawford Notch. To reach the parking lot from Twin Mountain, at the junction of US 3 and US 302 take US 302 east and drive about 8 miles. You'll see the AMC Highland Center on your right. If you are coming from North Conway, the parking lot is about 21.5 miles from the junction of US 302 and NH 16 in Glen.

We'll be driving a blue Toyota Tacoma truck.
