Be Prepared: Please be prepared to be self-sufficient. Have your own provisions such as first aid kit, food, water, extra clothing for unplanned weather, etc. Have your EMERGENCY CONTACT SHEET completed and in your backpack; it may save your life, and help reach someone who greatly cares!
Pace: There may be activities when the group is either slower or faster than your current ability. Please know that because this is a group activity, it's hard to accommodate everyone's pace perfectly. Our desire is not to leave anyone, however there have been times when it is in the best interest of all to split up. Please do your part by knowing your own abilities, communicating with the organizer head of time if you would like to start early and have us catch up or fine with finishing on your own.
Summary

Bluff Point is the last remaining significant piece of undeveloped land (over 800 acres) along the Connecticut coast, declared a coastal reserve by the CT legislature in 1975. It is one of few places in the Connecticut where one can combine a hike and a swim in Long Island Sound. It was a thriving beach community until the Hurricane of 1938 wiped out over 100 beach cottages, which were never rebuilt. We will take an elliptical route clockwise from the parking lot to a strip of beach along the sound for an optional swim/wade (bring bathing suit and towel). Along the way before reaching the beach spot we will walk along the trail past the picturesque "bluffs" and enjoy views of the sound from the rock cliffs. The hike is of low intensity (relatively flat) and will last about 2 hours (not including whatever time we spend in the water). Dogs are allowed on trail, but not on beach (during summer).

Driving directions to the location and spot to meet at:

From I-95 North or South take Exit 88 to CT-117 South. From the intersection of CT-117 and US-1 in Groton drive 0.3 miles on US-1 to a left onto Depot Road. The GPS address "1 Depot Road, Groton, CT" takes you to this point. Once on Depot Road drive 0.7 miles, passing an industrial park and bearing right under a railroad bridge, until you reach the parking area. We will meet at end of parking area, at trailhead. Look for the billboard with map of park trails that is adjacent to some picnic tables.

Hello guys, Is this a hike that will be joining the LGBT local group that was on the spring Devil's Hopyard hike or is it just a GO trip? I'm looking forward to a cool water swim! Thanks for organizing.
