Meeting Time: 11:15 AM
Event Coordinator: glenleinerMax # People: 20
Trip Guiding / Event Fee: No, I will not be asking participants for money
Difficulty Level:
Easy to Moderate
SUMMARY:
Sundance returns to historic New Canaan, a great biking destination with a charming old town center, beautiful country roads, grand estates, and woodlands. This scenic two-wheeled tour, which is moderate in pace and distance, is ideal for most skill levels.
We'll embark from the train station and meander through the town's outlying neighborhoods on a circuit route, with lunch and a visit to Grace Farms. We will be riding on secondary roads with some light car traffic and rolling hills including a few significant climbs. Colorful late autumn foliage will hopefully still enhance the scenic, appx 19-mile route.
Grace Farms is a center for pursuing a more ethical and peaceful world. Its 2015 "River" building is a unique architectural response to the landscape with a sinuous floating canopy above several glass pavilions. We plan to buy lunch at the excellent cafe and explore the grounds before riding briefly through New York State, re-entering Connecticut, and heading south toward our starting point. New members, hill walkers, and E-bikes are especially welcome.
MEET: at 11:18 am at the New Canaan Metro North train station. Leaders will meet group at 9:45 am at the main kiosk, Grand Central Station with a round-trip New Canaan ticket in hand before boarding the 10:02 train.
COST: Admission to Grace Farms is free (donation as you wish). Lunch is appx $12-$20. You may also bring your lunch.
CHECKLIST: Helmet, eye protection, sunblock, water bottle, lock, bungee cords, spare tube, snack, charged mobile telephone.
NOTE: Stormy weather cancels; contact leaders if in doubt. Please inform Glen if you'll be taking the train from Grand Central or driving a car to the meeting point.
