SUMMARY:
Join us for a classic White Mountains adventure during peak fall foliage. This 11 mile out-and-back hike to North and South Twin Mountains delivers everything: a peaceful riverside approach, a heart-pumping climb, and breathtaking 360-degree summit views from South Twin’s open summit. The trail becomes steep with rocky footing and some hands-on scrambles in places. *Details* What: North and South Twin Mountains Distance: 10.9 miles out-and-back Elevation Gain: 3667' Difficulty: Strenuous Pace: Moderate to fast moderate. Estimated Time: 7-8 hours https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/new-hampshire/north-twin-and-south-twin-mountain-via-north-twin-trail We will begin at the North Twin parking lot at the end of Haystack Road. The hike will go up the North Twin Trail for 4.2 miles where you will reach the summit. There are 3 river crossings within the first 2 miles of this hike and they are tricky to cross if the water level is high which is why we waited until now. We will continue over to South Twin Mountain along the same trail that changes from North Twin Trail to North Twin Spur. We will reach the summit after 1.2 miles. From there we will retrace your steps for 5.5 miles to get back to the parking lot. We’ll figure out where for lunch based on timing. Please note that the hike will start PROMPTLY AT 8:30 AM so arrive absolutely no later than 8:15. We will not wait for folks that are late. The North Twin Trailhead parking lot on Haystack Road does not charge a fee to park. The lot is small but parking is permitted on the road.
