Meeting Time: 1:00 PM

Event Coordinator: emsinjp
BOSTON, MA

Max # People: 16

Trip Guiding / Event Fee: No, I will not be asking participants for money

Difficulty Level: Easy

SUMMARY:
What better way to celebrate the 250th year of our nation's founding and the efforts of the patriots to secure our independence! This will be way better than a massive cage fight on the lawn of the WH. ;-) Although the Freedom Trail winds its way through historic Boston for only 2.5+ miles, this fascinating and meandering walk packs a punch with its many historic sites that mark indelible facets in our country's founding, as well as its earliest decades. We'll start at the Bunker Hill Monument (in Charlestown), which we'll climb to the top, then head down the hill to see Old Ironsides (the USS Constitution), possibly for a tour if there's time. Then, we'll walk over to the North End, via the Charles River Bridge. There we'll first wind our way through the ancient Copps Hill Burying Ground, then down the hill to view the Old North Church - site of the famous lanterns guiding Paul Revere. Next we'll walk though the famous Italian North End, over to the Paul Revere House. After that will be stops at Faneuil Hall - the nation's true Cradle of Liberty, the Old State House - site of the 1770 Boston Massacre, then up to the Old South Meeting House - gathering spot for the Boston Tea Party. Final stops on our tour will be the Old Granary Burying Ground - paying our respects to Paul Revere, John Hancock, Samuel Adams and the victims of the Boston Massacre, the Boston Common (the Liberty Tree!), and then the awesome memorial to the 54th MA Regiment of the Civil War. You not want to miss this history-packed walk as a fitting tribute to the 250th - it'll be better than that cage fight! PS - optional dinner out at a nearby local pub, if there's interest.
