SUMMARY:
Created in eastern upstate New York in 1892 as one of the first Forever Wild Forest Preserves in the nation, the Adirondack Park is a unique wilderness area and National Historic Landmark. At 6 million acres, it is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States. The vast wilderness, pristine lakes, and mountains have made it a beloved destination over the years. In August, Sundance is planning a return trip with a five night moderately- paced Long Lake to Tupper Lake canoe adventure of about 34+ miles with one 1.2-mile portage over the Raquette Falls carry. We plan to paddle about 6 hours each day with lunch and rest breaks, birdwatching, and unhurriedly enjoying the silence and pristine landscape. This historic "voyages" route combines lake and flat-water river paddling through a beautiful wilderness area with primitive campsites. Our local outfitter will provide two-person lightweight canoes, life jackets, and oars. We will bring our own tents, food, sleeping bags, and all equipment & supplies. The trip will include carpooling, camping under the stars, preparing meals together, and purifying our daily water. Find more trip info at: https://www.canoeoutfitters.com/trip-planning/routes/long-lake-tupper-lake-or-saranacs. Please contact trip leaders with any questions and plan now to join us for an unforgettable Adirondacks adventure! COST PER PERSON: Appx $250 for canoe rental and transport to/from lakes (based on 8 paddlers). Additional expenses to be determined include travel NYC to/from Saranac Lake, NY plus food, supplies, and needed equipment. To secure your space on this trip, please contact Glen and pay $250 (non-refundable) ASAP. EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST: Backpack or large knapsack, waterproof sports sandals, basic clothing, hat, sunglasses, sleeping bag, and more. We will share tents, cooking and food, and water filtering.
