Meeting Time: 8:30 AM
Event Coordinator: dpbyrnesMax # People: 10
Trip Guiding / Event Fee: No, I will not be asking participants for money
Difficulty Level:
Strenuous
SUMMARY:
Join us for this 6.4 mile snowshoe to the summit of a prominent 4000-foot peak in the Presidential Range...Mt. Pierce (4312'). We will take the Crawford Path up to the summit of Mt. Pierce with its relatively open summit. The bare area on the north side of the summit has fine vista looking onto the Presidential ridge to Washington and Jefferson! There is approximately 2400 feet in elevation gain. The Crawford Path is among the least aggressive trails to a 4000-foot peak:

Depending upon the group, weather, timing, etc., we might continue on to Eisenhower. This would make it 8.7 miles, with 3323 elevation gain:

We’ll keep a moderate pace. Regardless, this is an in and out hike, anyone can turn and head back to the parking area at any point during the hike.
Micro Spikes should be sufficient but if there is a recent snowstorm, then we'll need snowshoes. We’ll monitor the weather and trail conditions and send an update by Thursday the 12th.
What to wear/bring: Please have the necessary winter gear/clothing needed to hike this time of year including the appropriate amount of layers to keep your core body warm. We recommend winter hiking boots (over regular), definitely micro spikes, wool hat, gloves, hand warmers, warm layers and no cotton. Carry at least 1-2 liters of water, lunch and snacks. Again, Micro Spikes are required and we may need snowshoes. You might wanted to be prepared and strap your snowshoes onto your pack using bungee cords in case they are needed.
