SUMMARY:

Join Neil and Jim for Day 1 of our Vermont activities weekend. We’ll meet at the Woodstock Apple and Crafts Fair, and spend 2-3 hours touring the fair individually or in small groups. (Fair admission is $5/person, payable when you enter.) According to the event organizers, it features “more than 100 juried craftspeople and specialty food producers and food trucks.” If time permits, after touring the fair we’ll walk around Woodstock, one of Vermont’s most picturesque towns, for an hour or so. Finally, we’ll drive a few miles to the beautiful Quechee Gorge, and hike down to the base. This 2.7-mile (round trip) hike is on a well-traveled trail, safely set back from the gorge. After admiring the scenery at the base of the trail, we’ll hike back up to the top of the gorge (elevation gain: 165 feet). The hike is easy to moderate, more the former unless you've been very sedentary or have mobility issues. Following the day’s activities there may be an optional group dinner in Woodstock or a nearby town. Details on that to follow.

A REQUEST: If you may be interested in attending the group dinner (around 6 p.m.), please comment as such when you sign up for the trip. That won’t commit you to anything; we just want a preliminary head count. Assume the restaurant will be moderately priced—around $25-35 for the meal, depending on what you order besides an entrée.

Driving directions to the location and spot to meet at:

We’ll meet at the Woodstock Fairgrounds (aka Bailey's Meadows) parking lot. The group will gather at a small grassy area adjacent to the auto exit. The Fairgrounds entrance is across from the Worthy Kitchen restaurant (442 Woodstock Rd.; US 4). Park your car and walk over to the exit to meet the group.
