SUMMARY: Meet at parking lot; walk along trail next to the gorge until the trail meets the road. Walk on dirt road about 4 miles downstream. Have lunch next to the Westfield River, then return by same route to the parking lot. Some minor elevation gains on the road - maybe 50 feet maiximum. Road is mostly tree-shaded. Driving directions to the location and spot to meet at: Take Route 9 west from Northampton about 5 miles past the VA Medical Center. Just past the village of Williamsburg, take a left on Route 143 (Chesterfield Road). Follow 143 about 7 miles. In West Chesterfield immediately after crossing the bridge over the Westfield River take a left onto Ireland St. After about a mile take a left into the parking lot of Trustees of Reservations property. |
