SUMMARY: Short notice and based upon current forecasting, please join me for a 5-mile hike within the grounds of the reservoirs off Farmington Avenue (Route 4) in West Hartford CT. Approximately 2 miles of woodland trails and 3 miles of access roads (gravel and paved) with perhaps 500' of elevation gain after which we'll walk out to a cliff-top viewpoint looking north-east-south across the CT River valley - and a good spot for any snacks/lunch you may wish to bring. The MDC has a good website. Themdc.org/reservoirs/ will take you to the maps; West Hartford Reservoirs Trail Map will be the one we're using. Please dress in layers, wear good hiking shoes/boots (may be wet underfoot) and bring whatever water/snacks/food you may want. Hike should last 2-3 hours. |

Driving directions to the location and spot to meet at: For your GPS, entrance to the West Hartford reservoirs is at 1420 Farmington Avenue (Route 4) in West Hartford CT. For those other than really local, easiest access if from I-84E/W, taking exit #39 to Route 4. At the traffic light, turn right onto Route 4 and go a little over 2 miles. Entrance is on the left at a traffic light. Drive in and park in the public lot to the left. On a nice weekend day this place will probably be packed. Park wherever you find a space and please meet at the sign board by the walking entrance into the property. Here's hoping we havce a nice day for the hike. Cheers, Jon |
