SUMMARY: This AT hike will be a one way, south to north 12.7 mile hike from Walnut Mountain Road to Dennis Cove Trailhead. At 1.7 miles we should have views of Grandfather, Roan, and Beech mountains.Then we should walk creekside for a while along Laurel Fork. 3.2 miles in to the hike we shall come to a section with several creek crossings. The first 6 miles of the hike should have gentle ups and downs. Then we will have an ascent of 500 feet over the next 0.7 mile. And then descend to Moreland Gap Shelter at 6.9 miles. From here, a slight climb will bring us to this section's high point of 4105 feet , at White Rocks Mountain. Then we begin a descent of about 3 miles to Dennis Cove Trailhead. Plan to spend about 7 hours on this hike.
