SUMMARY:

Please join us for a very cold but beautiful winter hike!

THIS IS A GOOD ONE IF YOU HAVE BEEN HIKING AND WANT TO TRY OUT SOME NEW WINTER CLOTHING AND GEAR.

We hike to Mt. Tecumseh [4,003'] via Mt. Tecumseh Trail from the Waterville Valley Ski area and return the same route. This route offers good wind protection in winter with a little exposure on the summit that has rewarding views toward Mts. Osceola, Washington and Tripyramids! First mile is gradual climbing and after the outlook from the ski area the climb picks up with intensity. There are some small stream crossings which should be frozen at this time of year.

Distance: 5 miles

Elevation Gain: 2,200'

Depending on the conditions in early January, appropriate gear should include: insulated winter boots [NOT your regular hiking boots!!], snowshoes [will only be needed if we had a recent snowstorm; will let you know], microspikes, wind/rain proof outer layers, wicking layers [no cotton], wool hat, gloves, handwarmers, water. lunch, etc.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me in advance.

Dinner afterward: You are welcome to join us for dinner at our house afterwards. We ask $10 to cover our food costs. Bring your own wine/beer and warm up next to our fireplace! You are welcome to use our showers [towels provided] so bring a change of clothing.

Lodging Option: Bunk beds are available at our house [with Wi Fi] near Waterville Valley, NH for Friday and/or Saturday nights. It's $25 for Friday night, $35 for Saturday that includes dinner or $60 for the weekend. Coffee/bagels each morning and linen/blankets/towels are provided. Space is limited so email ASAP to reserve a bunk!

Driving directions to the location and spot to meet at:

We will meet at the bottom of the stairs in front off the Waterville Valley Ski Area Base Lodge. The trailhead is a short walk from there but since I have no idea where people will be parking (ski area is in operation and you may have to park a good distance away from the trailhead) this is the easiest thing to do. According to Google Maps this spot is about 128 miles from Boston and it will take about a little over 2 hours to drive there. Use this link to customize the driving directions.
