Meeting Time: 8:15 AM

Event Coordinator: alancnj
Flemington, NJ
US

Max # People: 10

Trip Guiding / Event Fee: No, I will not be asking participants for money

Difficulty Level: Moderate

SUMMARY:

We'll go with the Hunterdon County Parks & Rec group (see pages 5 and 8 at  http://www.co.hunterdon.nj.us/depts/parks/harbinger.htm).  We'll meet at the Hunterdon County Arboretum and leave from there at 8:15am.  The van will take us and the canoes to the upper point on the river (Kingwood) and then we'll paddle downstream to Bull's Island.  We'll take the van back to the Arboretum and target to get there by 4pm.  If anyone is interested, we can go for drinks/food afterwards.

There is a maximum of 10 people for the event.  Each of us needs to register with and pay the County (mail in the registration form on page 8 of  http://www.co.hunterdon.nj.us/depts/parks/harbinger.htm).  It's first come-first served for registration and we'll be competing with non-GO participants.  If you're interested, I'd suggest registering soon.  [If there's enough interest, we can look at booking a special group event for GO at another time.]

WHAT TO EXPECT:  Please arrive by 8:15am.  We will meet behind the building where we'll be fitted with a lifejacket and paddle.  The leaders will talk about canoe safety & maneuvering at the put-in.  We'll paddle for about 2 hours, stop for lunch, and then paddle for another 2 hours.

WEATHER:  Trips run rain or shine.  Canoe leaders may elect to alter the trip, based on weather and water levels.

WHAT TO BRING:  Lunch (in waterproof container), drinking water, rain jacket, hat, and extra set of clothes in waterproof pack.

WHAT TO WEAR:  Suggest dressing in layers so you can adjust to changing temperatures.  Cotton is not a good material for cool, wet outdoor activities.  Polypropylene or fleece dries quickly and wool keeps you warm even if wet.  Wear sneakers or water shoes, not sandals.
