Frank Hagaman Interview

Tell us about your outdoors experience.

I ride nearly every weekend weather permitting.  I hike, sail and own a kayak.

How much do you like to outdoor recreation? Are you in love with it? If so...when did you fall in love and where?

I grew up spending a lot of time outdoors mostly on boats.  I like weather very much so can be prepared for anything which comes along.

If you knew someone who was thinking of starting outdoor recreation, what advice would you give them?

Find a person or a group to join you in whatever activity appeals,  Example: bike riding is not anywhere near as fun if riding alone.  You will also find that you go greater distances when doing an activity with person(s).

What was your first GO excursion? How did it turn out?

First experience was riding the Airline Trail with Jonathan Clark.  Small ground but totally enjoyed the company.

What do you like about GayOutdoors?

Doing something I enjoy with men who are gay..........I continue to want to meet new people and this allows me to do this.

Describe Connecticut to our outdoorzy members who’ve never been there? Is there a lot to do if you are an outdoor enthusiast?

Access to water is everywhere and mostly free, boat ramps all over the shore. The State has a network of hiking trails which were established in the 30"s and remain open to the public.  Suggest "the Connecticut Walk Book" as a guide.  Opportunities to ride are limitless and come in all varieties and difficulties.  It is a beautiful state to explore and has many ways to do it.

What is your favorite Adventure Travel place?

Greece.  Weather is always beautiful, water is most inviting and the scenery spectacular (men notwithstanding.  Don't forget sunblock.

What is your wish list for adventure travel and why?

A destination where I can do a long ride, explore at a slower pace.  Far East is one destination.

What is your favorite thing to do a perfect summer day?

A good long ride and then a swim to cool off.  Dinner with friends would be sublime.

If you could spend the day on the trail with one person, living or dead, it would be…
