Summary

Please join me for this early spring 4-5 mile hike in an area the Nature Conservancy describes as "New Hampshire’s last intact example of a pitch pine/scrub oak woodland, a globally rare forest type, one of the state’s most endangered landscapes."  We'll explore some of the pine barren lansdscape and then hike into hilly terrain owned by Camp Calumet where we'll end up at a beautiful viewpoint overlooking Ossipee Lake for lunch.  Should be back to the parking area by 3PMish.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy hiking/walking shoes.  Bring snacks as needed, a packed lunch and plenty of water/beverages.  We'll be parking in the farthest back parking area behind the Camp Calument Conference Center.  Enter the marked driveway off Ossipee Lake Road, curve in and past the Center, past cabins and onward until you reach the last parking area.  We'll meet in the far left-hand corner.  Camp Calumet has a street address of: 1090 Ossipee Lake Road, Freedom 03836.  Directions as follows:

From Route 16N/S: In West Ossipee, just north of MacDonald's and the Route 25W traffic light, turn onto Route 41 (Plains Road to Madison).  In about 1 mile, turn right onto Ossipee Lake Road.  Follow that into Freedom and be on the lookout for the Camp Calumet Conference Center sign and turn on your left.

From Route 25E:  In Effingham, take Route 153 (Eaton Road to Freedom).  Within 2 miles, take a left onto Ossipee Lake Road.  Follow this all away around the lake to Camp Calumet (you'll be very close to the lake at this point).  Look for the Conference Center entrance sign and turn on your right.

If anyone coming from Route 16S or Route 25E wants to carpool from my cottage on Ossipee Lake in Center Ossipee, just let me know and we'll make arrangements.
