Summary
Come work off some of that Thanksgiving day meal, as we kayak the 7-mile loop around the island city of Wilton Manors (Broward County, FL) which is completely surrounded by the city of Ft. Lauderdale.
Kayaks can be rented from a number of locations in the area. Atlantic Coast Kayaks is one company at the launch site for the trip (1/2 day rental is $40 and covers: kayak, paddle, and PFD). There is no fee for those bringing their own kayaks.
This trip was completed once before in May and it was quite a bit hotter then. But this time the temps should be cooler and more comfortable. It should be a great time to be on the water. The full trip is estimated at 4 very leisurely hours (9 AM - 1 PM); I am betting that it will not take us that long.
Bring, at least, 1 liter of water, snacks to munch on, head cover, sunglasses, water shoes, towel, and a change of clothes (in case your kayak outfit gets wet). Pack sunscreen and insect repellent as a precaution, but I doubt these will be needed. Do bring a camera to capture of the beauty of the flora, fauna, and vistas.
Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot
We will meet at the parking lot at Richardson Historical Park (1937 Wilton Dr., Wilton Manors, FL). The park and parking lot are located across the street from the Diary Queen.
From I-95, exit at Sunrise Blvd and drive east. Turn left at NE 4th Ave (Home Depot at the corner). The parking lot will be on your left when you cross the small bridge and enter Wilton Manors.
