Summary

This trip will be a very relaxing and peaceful weekend of camping along the Rock River, near Oregon, IL. The campground is accessible by river only, so it will require us to paddle either in canoes or kayaks to the sites. The campsites are primitive, with only a picnic table and fire ring. The campground has 10 sites, one pit toilet and a trash can. Sites cost $6 per night, and each guest will be responsible for paying that through an honor system, since there are no employees at the campground. Up to 4 adults and 2 tents can be on one site, so sharing is allowed. The camgground is part of Castle Rock State Park, and fishing, hiking, kayaking and canoeing are available.

All items needed must be brought in by canoe or kayak, so please remember to pack very light. If you would like to attend but don't have the proper camping equipment, please let me know as I have extras of many items.

We will meet at a public boat landing in Grand Detour, IL at 1:00 on Friday, Sept. 19. This will actually be the take out point for the canoes and kayaks at the end of the trip. We will carpool to Castle Rock, so some cars will still be at the take out point. Once we arrive at Castle Rock, we will paddle 2 miles downriver to the campground. On Sunday, we will be leaving the campground around noon, and paddling 5 miles further downriver and back to Grand Detour.

Please feel free to email with any questions, and if you plan to attend and need to use one of my canoes or kayaks, please let me know as soon as possible so I can make sure I can have everything transported in time. If any quesitons, please just let me know. I look forward to hearing from you!

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Initial meeting spot will be the public boat landing on Rt. 2, in Grand Detour, IL. This is located on Rt. 2 on the south side of town, just north of the bridge crossing the Rock River. Most vehicles will be left here, since this will be where we end up at the end of the trip. We will carpool to Castle Rock State Park (about 7 miles away) where the actual camping will take place.

If you are considering going, please let me know if there are any questions.
