Summary

Please join me for this Labor Day holiday 4.5 mile hike up Mt Major (elevation gain = 1150').  The 1700' peak is open, with spectacular views all around, most especially of the eastern reaches of Lake Winnipesaukee.  We'll ascend via the Boulder Loop Trail (2 miles with some steeper sections) and come down the Brook Trail (2.5 miles).

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Route 28 from east and west meets Route 11 at a rotary just south of Alton Bay.  Take Route 11N/28A which soon reaches Alton Bay where Rte 11 turns sharply left and then right to go up the west side of the lake.  From here it's 4.2 miles to the Mt Major parking lot on your left (west side).  If the lot is full parking is permitted on the shoulder of Rte 11.  We'll meet at the map/info board in the parking lot.  Please bring water, snacks and lunch for the summit.
