Summary

This is a VERY strenuous hike that ascends about 8,400 feet in about 9 miles. The temperature can drop up to 30 degrees as we ascend, so I recommend bringing appropriate clothing. Know your limits.

We will take the tram down. The cost for a one-way tram is about $12.00. If 4 or less hikers in the group, a free ride will be provided. Otherwise, we will then share a cab back to W. Ramon Road. The cab fare usually ends up being about $5.00 per person ($25 per cab).

I recommend bringing all the regular hiking essentials, AT LEAST 3 liters of water, food or energy bars, gels and definitely electrolytes. Electrolytes are especially important to prevent or stop cramps. I recommend taking electrolytes before you begin the hike. Because of the vast difference in temperature, layering is essential, so make sure you bring appropriate clothing for warm (in the lower sections) and cold (near the top) conditions.

Due to the extreme nature of this hike If I have hiked with you before, know about you or can tell from your prior hiking experience that you will be able to do this type of VERY strenuous activity, I will let you go with me. Please let me know of your major hikes within the past year. Thanks.

My average pace is around 1 to 1.5 mph (mostly beyond 5000ft). Total time: Anywhere from 7.5 to 9 hours, taking appropriate breaks along the way. Turning around is NOT an option for me unless an unexpected physical problem becomes an issue..

We'll start at the end of Ramon Rd/North Lykken trailhead.   Please be there at no later than 5:45am. Thanks.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Ask for specific directions to the trail head (near downtown Palm Springs).  Thanks.
