It was a great day for a hike, and we had a great group of guys and great conversation.   Thanks to everyone that came.   It was a perfect way to get one's mind off of other things going on in the world right now, and it felt like an almost normal social experience.   Even though there wasn't much snow in the parking lot, we wore microspikes, which came in useful on a lot of icy portions of the trail.  Everyone got a chance to see the plaque put up by Bette Davis in Memoriam to Arthur Farnsworth, one of her husbands who she met at Pecketts Resort in Sugar Hill in 1939.   Legend has it that she deliberately got lost on a group hike, knowing that Arthur Farnsworth would have to come find her.  They got married and had a house (Butternut) in Sugar Hill (which you can rent out on Airbnb or VRBO), but then he died falling down the stairs a few years later (he was Bette's only husband that died before she could divorce him).   When Bette sold her property in Sugar Hill in the early 1960s is when the plaque appeared.     By the time we got to the waterfall we were in a winter wonderland, with lots of snow and huge amounts of ice.    We were able to climb up the side of the waterfall with ease since we were using microspikes.    We passed more people going down than coming up, it was nice to see people enjoying the day (at respective distances).    Normally we would have invited people to go to a coffee house afterwards, but a rain check was necessary for both that and for hugs goodbye, but we all had a great time in the great outdoors and great company.
