Trip Report/Photos
At last year’s GO Gathering we saw all the people paddling past our campsite so we decided why not run a trip for this year’s GO Gathering? So we used Ski Fanatics to rent the kayaks and shuttle us to the river and back. We had 17 members joining us making this officially a gay flotilla! Ski Fanatics provided us a shuttle to Robin's Nest and we arrived around 11:30pm. Some members met us there since they had their own boats and made their own arrangements for a shuttle. Soon after starting, there was a split in the river. We were advised by Ski Fanatics to take a left. It was very shallow where we had to get out of our boats and drag them across the rocks for about 10 minutes. There were other shallow spots on the paddle, but this was by far the worst of it. On the river itself we saw people of all ages and sizes either on tubes, kayaks or canoes. Some people towed floatable coolers, had dogs in their boats and towed people tubing with their kayaks. It was entertaining just to observe everyone on the river. We even saw a donkey! For the most part, we found ourselves paddling together encountering another group of kayakers to tubers now and them. We stopped near a giant boulder along the shore of the river after paddling a third of the way for some swimming and lunch. The water temperature was perfect! There was a section with exposed limbs sticking out of the water so one had to maneuver around them carefully. As we paddled under the trestle bridge we found some guys jumping off it into the water. A bit later we pulled by another boulder for another swim. A few minutes later about a dozen teen age boys tubing stopped by the boulder and I could not help but take a few shots. J Yes…there was eye candy on the Pemi River…of all ages! After this, we were at the home stretch where we paddled past our campsite where the guys who had their own boats pulled in. The rest of us who were renting continued to our pick-up spot where we waited for Ski Fanatics. We finished around 3:00pm. Overall, it was a relaxing day of paddling on the Pemigewasset River with 17 GO members in sunny weather! |
