Difficulty Level: Easy
Cherry Springs State Park exists largely to provide an exceptional viewing site for star gazing. An almost total abscence of light allows the eye to see the night sky as you've probably never seen
...Use GPS or Google Maps to find: Cherry Springs State Park Galeton PA 16922. Meet at the park sponsored program at 9PM. Cell phones do not work well in this area so try to be on time. The park is South of Route 6 between Galeton and Coudersport.
Trip Report/Photos
This trip was "way out there" in more ways than one. The trip was 200 miles or more for some participants but when we got there we were rewarded with a view of the skies you just can't see anywhere near urban areas. If you go, choose a moonless night and one with a guided presentation. The park staff is very helpful and often do shows pointing out constellations and blowing up galaxies on computer screens connected to telescopes. Very cool. I saw four minor shooting stars and one very bright one which was an unexpected bonus.
