Summary
Lovely setting on a lake below Cannon Mountain, with photo perfect views of the Franconia Range and the Kinsmans from the shore!
We are taking the Lonesome Lake Trail that begins from the Lafayette Campground. We are returning the same way we hiked in but we will add in a circuit around the lake. Approximately 3.2 miles with 1000 feet elevation gain. Be sure to bring appropriate winter gear such as winter insulated boots, MicroSpikes, warm clothing (no cotton and blue jeans), water, snacks, etc. We will be having lunch inside the warmth of the Lonesome Lake Hut!
Carpooling: Contact other members to carpool, share the conversation and travel expenses. Let us know if you want to carpool with Jon and I on I-93 off Exit 28.
Afterwards: Everyone is welcome to join us back at our house in Waterville Valley to relax by our fireplace [BYOB and bring snacks] followed by one of Jon's delicious dinners. We ask $10 per person to help pay for our food costs. Showers are available so bring a change of clothing to make your visit with us more comfortable.
Lodging Option: Bunk beds are available at our house [with Wi Fi] near Waterville Valley Friday and/or Saturday night. It's $25 for each night plus $10 for dinner on Saturday night. Coffee/bagels each morning and linen/blankets/towels are provided. Space is limited so email ASAP to reserve a bunk!
Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot
Your destination is the Lafayette Place Campground. Northbound on the Franconia Notch Parkway, note your mileage as you pass Exit 34A. Continue on the parkway about 4 miles to an exit sign: TRAILHEAD PARKING. Smaller signs list the Bridle Path and Falling Waters Trail, but this exit is also for the Lonesome Lake Trail. Leave your car in the parking area and walk through the foot tunnel under the parkway to the west side. [You can park on the other side of this tunnel by travelling further north on the parkway, turning around at the Cannon Mountain exit, and then take the Lafayette Campground exit; you'll recognize us with our blue Toyota Tacoma truck]. When you emerge from the tunnel, bear left around the log cabin. Farther on you'll see a sign on your right for the Lonesome Lake Trailhead. Continue to the end of the south parking area.
