Summary

Mt. Israel features an open summit with sweeping views of the southern White Mountains!

Are you new to hiking? Then this hike is for you! This hike is intended for those who have some hiking experience, are physically fit, and want to try hiking up a mountain. 

Participants should have sturdy hiking boots/shoes, a day pack sufficient to carry 1-2 liters of water, lunch, snacks, rain gear, and extra clothing. Heavy rain cancels.

Elevation gain: 1700 feet

Distance: 4 miles

Duration: 3-4 hours

Mt. Israel rises to 2,630 feet in the Sandwich Range. It's partially open summit offers sweeping views of the southern White Mountains, including Sandwich Dome, Mt. Whiteface, and Mt. Chocorua. We'll ascend the mountain via the Wentworth Trail, which features moderate grades, forest streams, and views of Squam Lake. 

Apres Hiking Swim/BBQ:  Everyone is welcome to join us back at our house in Waterville Valley to sunbathe/soak in the Mad River, relax our on outdoor deck with views of the Sandwich Mountain/Mad River [BYOB and bring snacks] and followed by one of Jon's delicious dinners. We ask $10 per person to help pay for our food costs. Showers are available so bring a change of clothing to make your visit with us more comfortable.

Lodging Option: Bunk beds are available at our house [with Wi Fi] near Waterville Valley, NH for Saturday night. It's $35 that includes dinner. Coffee/bagels each morning and linen/blankets/towels are provided. Space is limited so email ASAP to reserve a bunk!

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Route 93N to Exit 24, Routes 3/25

Go 4.4 miles and once in Holderness, turn left onto Route 113.

From Center Sandwich, follow Grove Street to Diamond Ledge Road. 

Bear right at the beginning of the Sandwich Notch Road and follow Diamond Ledge Road past a farm to the Mead Conversation Center. This center is the trailhead for the Wendworth Trail. We'll be driving a blue Toyota Tacoma truck.
