Summary

We will hike the Mt. Cube Trail [Appalachian Trail] to the summit of Mt. Cube, elevation 2,909 feet. Great directional views from two open ledges, north and south peaks! Mount Cube, with open ledges on its north and south peaks, commands views both back down the valley towards Hanover and ahead to Mount Moosilauke and the White Mountains beyond.

The trail is managed by the Dartmouth Outing Club and is a great out-and-back challenge for intermediate hikers. We completed the hike in the month of April a couple of years ago and was surprised by the conditions we saw – lots of ice! However, we are not expecting any ice this time around and we’ll have views like you see on the pictures posted. As you can see, the views are terrific!

Trail Specifics:

• Roundtrip Length - 6.6 Miles

• Elevation Gain - 2200 Feet

• Expected Time - 4.5 to 5 hours

You need to have the hiking capability to complete this hike. If you do not have this skill level, then please sign-up for an easier hike.

Make sure to bring gear for an early winter hike. Gloves, hats, raingear are all mandatory. You should be prepared with wicking layers and wear NO COTTON.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me in advance.

Cookout afterward: Jon will be grilling up some chicken that will be served with salad and various side dishes…save room for dessert! We ask $10 to cover our food costs. Bring your own cold beverages and sit on our deck to enjoy the beautiful fall colors of the Mad River valley! You are welcome to use our showers [towels provided] so bring a change of clothing.

Lodging Option: Bunk beds are available at our house [with Wi Fi] near Waterville Valley, NH for Saturday night. It's $35 for Saturday. Coffee/bagels each morning and linen/blankets/towels are provided. Space is limited so email ASAP to reserve a bunk!

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

I-93 Exit 26
NH-25 west [for 15.7 miles]
NH-25A west [for 4.6 miles]
Parking at trailhead along left side of road, just after small bridge over Pond Brook. Trailhead on same side as parking, marked by Dartmouth Outing Club sign. Note that there's a hiker sign on right before the bridge and old logging road on left after the bridge that looks like the trail, but it's not. Trailhead is a little farther down the road, at end of parking area if coming from I-93 direction. We will be driving a blue Toyota Tacoma truck.

Hi all. I 've got to 25A just before 11AM but the road was closed so I went around to west side and approached from R 10 but the situation was same. I thought I.would leave the car somewhere and walk but so many pomice cars were around. If you guys somehow managed around I hope you had a great hike. Such a beautiful fall day. I am changing my plan to Blak Mountain in Benton. Regards, kevin
