Summary

Please join me for a 4 - 6 mile hike in a local CT state park in southeast CT (TBD), after which we'll return to my cottage @ Amston Lake for a swim followed by a BBQ potluck dinner. You should bring a lunch for the hike and then a beverage of your choice plus either a salad course, main dish or dessert to share with the group at the dinner. We will be stopping at a local supermarket on the way home for any provisions that may be lacking for the BBQ.  Also, please bring a bathing suit and towel if you might want to swim in the lake.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

FOR GOOGLEMAPS, MAPQUEST et al and GPS use: 50 ISLAND BEACH ROAD, LEBANON CT 06249

From Hartford and points north & west: Get to Hartford and onto 84E. Just after crossing the CT River on the Bulkeley Bridge, take Route 2 exit (#55). Follow Route 2E to Route 66E (Exit 13). Turn left at end of exit. Follow 66E to Hebron Center @ 85. Turn right onto 85S. After about 3 miles then turn left onto 207. Go to final directions below...

Directions from SW CT: I recommend taking the Merritt or 91N to 691E/66E through Middletown, Marlborough to Hebron Center @ 85. Turn right onto 85S. After about 3 miles then turn left onto 207. Go to final directions below... Directions from SE CT: I recommend 85N to 82 to 11 to Route 2 in Colchester. Take Exit 18 and turn right onto Route 16. Go past Stop & Shop to Colchester Center (less than 1/4 mile). At light turn left onto Route 85N/16E. At the next immediate light 16E goes right and you proceed through in a left curve on 85N At next light (after Harry's Place hamburger stand) take a right to stay on 85N. Amston (Lebanon) is now a little more than 4 miles ahead. Stay on 85N to beginning of Route 207. Turn right (it only goes to the right) onto 207. Go to final directions below...

From Boston/E MA: Take 90W to 290S (towards CT) to 395S to Route 2W in Norwich CT. Follow Route 2 to Colchester. Go to final directions below... ...

Follow 207 up a very steep hill and onto a sort of plateau for 1.7 miles to a right (after large Owenco farm field) onto Spafford Drive to the end. Turn left onto Deepwood Rd to the 5th left onto Island Beach Rd (Amston Lake is always to your right). #50 is 4th house on the right - yellow with white trim, green skirting and a Rainbow flag by the door. Parking is just beyond the house; room for 3 cars plus a couple of spaces in front if you pull as far off the road to the right as you can. NOTE: Please come into the cottage and check with me about where to park. My neighbors' parking lot is right next to ours and they get understandably upset if I use any of their spaces without permission.

Hi Jonathan. I will be bringing a Homemade Potato Salad(Mayo).

Lou1028 Posted Jun 21, 2017 at 6:39 PM

Jonathan - I'll pick up burgers, rolls, and ketchup. Do you have grill? If not, I have a portable gas grill that I can bring - just let me know. Tom L
