Summary

Doublehead Cabin sits at the summit of North Doublehead Mtn in Jackson, NH. Built by the CCC in the 1930's, it is the summit terminus of the Doublehead Ski Trail (blue diamond). South Doublehead summit is an easy 0.5 miles away. The cabin retains its rustic charm: no electricity, no water, but there is a composting outhouse nearby. Cabin has bunk space for 8; two tables, benches, a wood burning stove, and (usually) firewood. Any overflow can sleep on floor or tent outide. The 1.6 mi ascent via the Ski Trail trail is definitely easy - you could probably pull a two wheeled shopping cart behind. Check in at 1; check out at 12. If checked in early, you can laze around the cabin (glamping at its best....Velma, peel me a grape....); hike the Doublehead loop - about 4.5 miles. Note that South Doublehead is steep - reminds me of Cannon; or hike many of the 52WAV peaks nearby: Black, Iron, Parker, Kearsarge North, the Moats. Also thinking a nighttime hike to South peak would be fun- other than a bit of elevation change near North peak, it is an easy ridge walk (oh my, possibly a naked night hike depending on ambient temp???). Besides, all the great views are on the south peak.

I am surprised at how many of you have expressed interest in this adventure. Thank you. If the date works for you, please sign up. We can work on the details as time approaches.

Parking space is limited at the trailhead so carpooling is advised. We can decide as the date approaches, but there are many places to leave a vehicle overnight in nearby N. Conway.

Bring appropriate overnight gear for a rustic setting: weather rated sleeping bag +/- sleeping pad depending on how butch you are. Convertible hiking pants, a thermal base layer just in case, as well as some layering. Food as appropriate. But seriously, we could hike down from the cabin and go to dinner in Jackson! It is that easy. Communal snacks and libations encouraged.
