Summary
This hike is a moderate 7.6 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail that will travel south to north, starting at Stecoah Gap and ending at Yellow Creek Gap. The Nantahala National Forest will be home to this hike.
The hike will have one 1000 ft. descent and one 800 ft. climb.
Though the hike is listed as moderate, there are a few knobs that are quite steep that need to be negotiated.
It is estimated that this hike should take about 6 hours. A car shuttle will be required.
Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot
The meeting location for this hike will be the Mc Donalds in Robbinsville, North Carolina. The address for the Mc Donalds is 374 Rodney Orr Bypass, Robbinsville, NC, 28771.
We will be leaving from the Mc Donalds at 9:00 AM sharp to depart for the Yellow Creek Gap Trailhead. The drive to the trailhead should be about 30 minutes. We will leave vehicles here and drive to the Stecoah Gap Parking Lot, about 20 minutes. I would like to be on the trail by 10:00 AM.
This hike requires a car shuttle.

Well since the hike has changed I'll change my comment as I have not hiked from Stecoah Gap in either direction - but a friend and I did the Yellow Creek Mountain hike that end at Yellow Creek Gap - and that area is gorgeous - the Yellow Creek Mountain hike is a ridge hike, as is the AT in most places and the views are beautiful.
Well I've started hikes from both of those trail heads but never hiked from one to the other so this should be fun - the view from Wayah Bald are gorgeous and there are maps of the mountains you can see from the observation tower - probably best to be dressed there and in the parking lot, but the trail should be good for those who like to hike clothing optional
