Summary
There are many things I love about living in the Upper Connecticut River Valley. This weekend combines three of them: the North Haverhill Fair, Mount Moosilauke and Black Mountain.
The North Haverhill Fair:
2016 will mark the 72nd year for this old fashioned country fair which includes concerts on both Friday and Saturday nights and of course lots of hot redneck eye candy. It is $12 for admission to the fair. If people are interested we can do the fair on both Friday and Saturday night (or just hang out around a campfire and chillax).
Mount Moosilauke:
Saturday morning we'll ascend this four-thousand-footer via the Gorge Brook Trail. We will follow this trail to the summit (4802’). Then we'll take the Carriage Road for the descent and leave it once we reach the Snapper Trail which connects back to Gorge Brook Trail. (Round trip total miles / elevation: 7.4 / 2,550 feet)
Black Mountain:
Sunday we will ascend via the Chippewa trail (1.8 miles to the summit). The Chippewa Trailhead is located on Lime Kiln Road 3.1 miles north of NH Rte. 25 in East Haverhill just 20 minutes from our farm.
Camping / Accommodations:
I am sure you can find someplace to sleep under the stars on our 100+ acre farm and woodland. You can even help with morning chores with our alpacas, sheep, donkeys, pigs, chickens and more if you want to experience what that is like. Add an electrified cooking and eating area, three small ponds and a built-out campfire area and you have all you need for a great campout. (You are welcome to use facilities in the main house too). We can coordinate food as a group or you can do food individually. BYOB (Please drink responsibly).
What You Need:
- Car-camping gear (tent or tarp, sleeping bag, sleeping pad).
- Food (we can coordinate group meals after people get here - there is a Hannaford's 10 minutes drive from the farm). Or you can do meals solo.
- Hiking gear (including sturdy boots, rain gear, warm clothing - no cotton).
- Swimming trunks (optional) if you plan to take a dip in one of the ponds ,
What you need to know:
We are a workaway / helpx location (https://www.workaway.info/652137741728-en.html) so you may find yourself interacting with folks from other countries who are staying with us for a time.
