Celebrate LGBT Pride Month with an adventuresome intermediate-level ride to one of New York's most picturesque destinations: historic City Island in the Bronx. Located in Long Island Sound, this surprising little island has the ambiance of a New England coastal village and is a terrific two-wheeled destination. The 40-mile route launches from Central Park passing through a series of eclectic Bronx neighborhoods, the Grand Concourse, and Pelham Bay Park. We will briefly explore crescent-shaped Orchard Beach, sometimes described as the "Bronx Riviera," and its distinctive 1937 Art Deco bathhouse and promenade. Our visually rich route features urban streets with traffic, medium grade hills, and some uneven pavement. Bring a picnic lunch or purchase at City Island's many seafood or delis with spectacular vistas of graceful sailboats coursing the Sound. Participants desiring reduced mileage can opt to board the Pelham Parkway subway on our return. This special Pride Ride is sponsored by Sundance Outdoor Adventure Society and open to The entire LGBT community. Event is free but please register early. Rainbows, rhinestones, and outrageous cycling attire encouraged.
